Glasgow celebrates a Regional STEM vision

The Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow was the venue for the launch of the regional STEM Strategy for Glasgow. A culmination of the past engaged with NEF: The Innovation Institute to ensure Glasgow’s educational providers have aligned and future proofed their STEM provision to business and industry needs.

The STEM regional strategy was the final piece in a programme that saw the City of Glasgow College, Glasgow Kelvin College, and Glasgow Clyde College undertake STEM in Development. Each college worked with NEF to produce differentiated STEM strategies that built upon their individual capabilities and resources. The strategies, although unique to each college provided a blue print and the foundation for the regional STEM strategy. Furthermore, it provided a vehicle to share and extend capacity in key STEM economic priority areas.

In an unprecedented step, all three colleges had also worked in parallel to prepare and go through STEM Assured: The Stem standard that validates excellence in cross-curricular STEM provision. On the 21st October, Glasgow Clyde, Glasgow Kelvin and City College Glasgow were recognized and commended on securing such an accolade. Through this achievement Glasgow has become first ever STEM assured region in the UK.

At the launch, Michael Fainbarn, Chairman of Glasgow College Regional Board said:

“Businesses and the economy are striving for higher productivity and STEM skills talent is the key. We aim to make Glasgow world class in STEM, and having the strategy, and STEM Assured will help us do this.”
